A Garden Retreat

Location The Star
Date 26-29 Apr

Following the success of our sell out Tulip Retreat, we have put together a second opportunity for you to discover some beautiful Sussex gardens this spring.

Olga Polizzi's garden proves that Italianate formality and English romance can work in harmony.

On Sunday 26 April, you are invited to Friston Place, the 16th century grade 1 listed home of Olga Polizzi, to visit her private garden that will be alight with a display of tulips.  Guests will be offered a glass of Champagne on the terrace or in the Great Hall depending on the weather.

The Gardens at Parham consist of seven acres of Pleasure Grounds, laid out in the 18th century, with a lake, spring bulbs and a brick and turf maze.

On Monday guests will have a private tour of the historic house Parham House, and its lovely walled garden and pleasure gardens. This will be followed by lunch at the nearby Welldiggers Arms, before a return to The Star in the early afternoon, providing time to explore the pretty village of Alfriston. Dinner will be served at The Star in the evening.

Great Dixter was the home of gardener and gardening writer Christopher Lloyd, who developed it into a hub of ideas and connections that spread out across the world.

Tuesday begins with a visit to Great Dixter, for a private tour of this renowned garden made famous by Christopher Lloyd.

At Pashley Manor, all the ingredients of the English Country Garden are present.

After lunch at The Bell in Ticehurst, it is on to see the tulip festival and gardens at Pashley Manor, with a tour hosted by the head gardener. Pashley Manor’s annual tulip festival has become a must-see spectacle in the gardener’s spring calendar, with over 40,000 tulips on display.  Dinner will be served at the Star on the last night of this garden retreat, and guests will say their goodbyes on the Wednesday.
