The Star is a heavenly base for walkers. ‘There are walks in every direction; short, long, high and low, level along the bends of the Cuckmere River towards the sea, steep on the Downs and cliffs above. There is nowhere more glorious to walk so close to London.

The Star can prepare a picnic rucksack for walkers wanting to spend a long day out exploring.
Exploring the South Downs by mountain bike broadens the horizons and takes you to undiscovered corners of East Sussex. The quiet riverside lanes of the Cuckmere Valley meander from Alfriston through Litlington village, past Friston Forest and down to the stunning coastline of Cuckmere Haven and the Seven Sisters. For a slightly more energetic ride, the South Downs Way is within reach of most riders, rolling from the doorstep of The Star right up to the ridge of the Downs, offering majestic views south over the valley, and north across the Sussex Weald. You may even come face to face with the Long Man of Wilmington. An expert local guide from Marmalade MTB can be booked to show you the wonderful off-road trails that surround Alfriston. Bring your own bike, or hire one from Cuckmere Cycle Company.
